BACKGROUND

Oldfields was originally founded in 1937 as a road sealing company, but has now grown in to a diverse organisation providing high quality product and services in civil construction, road maintenance and engineering, roading and construction aggregates, ready mixed  concrete and cement, as well as landscaping and commercial bark and compost product.

Three core divisions make up the Oldfields group;

  • Asphalts - specialising in road construction and sealing
  • Aggregates - specialising in aggregate extraction andsupply, and bark products, and
    Ready Mix - specialising in ready mixed concrete.

Oldfields Truck and Machinery undertake in-house maintenance and repair work on our fleet of trucks, excavation, and sealing plant, ensuring that Oldfields equipment is always in excellent condition.

The business is supported by Oldfields Group, which provides corporate services such as Human Resources, Information Technology, Finance, and Marketing as well as strategic planning and general administration.

Today, the Oldfield Group of companies is one of the largest contractors in the Wairarapa and southern Hawkes Bay regions. Branches opened in 2003 have extended Oldfields locations to Wellington and Nelson.

Oldfields has a regional asphalt and bitumen plant located in Richmond (Nelson), allowing it to supply associated product and services to the Nelson-Tasman area.  Supply of certified concrete is also now available in this area.

Since its earliest beginnings, Oldfields has undertaken all forms of contracting work, including large earthmoving contracts, overlays, flank reconstruction, drainage, first and second coat sealing, grader-laid and paver-laid asphalting.

Experience includes work on state highways, contracts for local authorities, shape correction contracts and commercial work including design and build tenders.

The range of skills covered by the people at Oldfields can
be seen in the diverse range of projects and types of
work that the company has undertaken and completed
since its inception.

Managing Director at that time, Colin Oldfield, attributes the huge growth the company has experienced to the commitment, loyalty and skill of its employees; "We are only as good as our reputation and quality of workmanship - this is foremost in what we do".

On 31 August 2008, the Higgins Group, based in Palmerston North, bought Oldfield Group. Higgins Managing Director, Bernard Higgins, said he was delighted the family-owned business would expand through the acquisition.
